Why I Love CrossFit: CrossFit has taken my mind and body to heights I never thought possible. Aside from a stronger body, CrossFit has taken my spirit and instilled in it the attitude, grit, and raw determination to conquer the obstacles that come and do it knowing I won’t give up when things get tough.

My Life Outside CrossFit: Outside of the gym I have a wonderful wife who keeps me happy and honest. I work as a paramedic full-time and math/science tutor part-time. When I’m not working or working out I usually enjoy nerding it up with a few video games.

Something You Don’t Know About Me: I used to weigh 225lbs in 6th grade.

Why I Love Crossfit: I love crossfit because it has taught me to be a stronger person. “Of course it has” you say, but the strength I am speaking of is mental strength. I feel more prepared for the day to day battles I incur at work, in family life, and socially. Having a healthy self esteem and being overall happier has made my life more fulfilling. I can never repay what crossfit has done for me. The sense of community in crossfit is unbelievable and another reason I love it!  On a side note:  I relish competition and crossfit gives me a way to carry over my collegiate days on the soccer field and to push myself to all time highs. I finished my first marathon,with Beth Curtis, last year doing crossfit training and it was an awesome experience!! I don’t think I would have ever done it using traditional training programs. Crossfit will make you better in so many ways…. What’s not to love?!!!

My Life Outside CrossFit: (and inside:) I have a wonderful husband and little girl. I couldn’t ask for a better time just hanging with those two!!!! I work as an anesthetist. I absolutely love my job and helping people. (Which is why I think I love coaching and seeing people reach their goals.) I also like anything outdoors and athletic…. Who am I kidding…. I love lounging with a cocktail too!!

Why I love CrossFit: The intensity and variation of CrossFit programming paired with the competitive camaraderie is unmatched by anything else I have ever tried.

My Life Outside CrossFit: Very happily married to a smoking hot CrossFit Trainer, father of super-sweet 5 year old daughter Payton Elizabeth, and local Hickory kid (St. Stephens High)  all grown up. I work as an Anesthetist providing anesthesia services mostly in Hickory specializing in sports medicine and bariatric (gastric bypass) surgery. If I’m not working or in the gym, I’m lounging by the pool with my girls or out on the golf course with the boys.

Something you don’t know about me: I graduated high school at 5’11”, 118 lbs, but it still took me until age 30 to figure out 6’, 225 wasn’t in the cards for me.

Proudest CrossFit Moment: Finishing 74th out of 150 in my very first attempt at a regional event in Durham with Kevin back in 2011. Or as I recall, the last time I beat Kevin at anything!!!

Most Humbling CrossFit Moment: Every time my wife smokes me in a WOD I think I should win.

Favorite Cheat Meal: Tripps Santa Fe Chicken Pasta, and an ice cold Oatmeal Porter.

Why I love CrossFit: I was that guy who was going into the gym and doing back/bi’s, chest/tri’s and legs. Every time I started making some headway I got bored and quit. I haven’t wanted to quit CrossFit (if you catch my drift). Every day is different. The best thing about CrossFit is the people and the really cool community that is created. Some people may call it “cultish”. If a group of people that have fun hanging out, cheering each other on and getting fit counts as a cult, then welcome! Just be sure to pour yourself a glass of Kool-Aid as you walk in. I’m guessing you could apply that same label to golfers, bowlers, chess players and maybe even those old ladies that get together and play bridge. At the end of the day it fits my personality, helps me stay fit, I have a lot of fun doing it and helping other folks reach their fitness goals.
